This Blame's All Mine
Updated: Sep 3, 2020
This song was done and rough demo tracked. Then Ritchie Havens died. He had signed a record for me some years earlier, “to a forever friend”. It resonated with me so that I changed one pre-chorus in homage.
How were you to know—when no one thought to say
This is how it’s done—here’s the rules of play
Though I’ll shoulder this today
I barely got away
Atop a hill—you didn’t climb
It’s not your place—it’s not your time
It’s not your rain—it’s not your shine
Just push on through—this blame’s all mine
Where are you to go—if no one paves the way?
Aimless and adrift—free and astray
A forever friend gone away
With still more left to say
Atop a hill—you didn’t climb
It’s not your place—it’s not your time
To burn a bridge—to cross a line
It’s not on you—this blames all mine
Though I shoulder this today
I fear you got away
